BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team was picked to repeat as MAC Tournament Champions in the preseason coaches' poll that was announced Wednesday morning by the league office. While the Bulls were picked to win the tournament title, they were picked to finish second during the regular season behind Western Michigan. The Bulls, who went undefeated in conference play last season, return nearly everybody from last year's championship team, while adding two solid freshmen newcomers, who will bolster the lineup. Buffalo will be led by sophomore, who was named a 2017 All-MAC First Team selection. A native of Kangar, Malaysia, Sheng Koay posted a 3-3 overall MAC record in singles and an 8-7 overall record, while adding a 2-1 MAC record in doubles and 6-6 overall doubles mark. Senior and sophomore Ville Fridell were both named 2017 All-MAC Second Team honorees.
While on the coaching staff, Boyd recruited First-Team All-MAC players Barry Church, Archie Donald, Jermaine Robinson and Eric Page. Church and Page would go on to become All-Americans. FDU-Florham was second with 31 points and King's College is third with 25 points. DeSales is in its second-year after re-instating the sport in the Fall of 2016. DSU posted a 6-10 overall record and a 3-3 mark in the MAC Freedom last season earning its first MAC Freedom playoff spot since the 2005 season. The Bulldogs opened this season posting a perfect 4-0 record in the Fall led by freshman (Bethlehem, PA) who posted a 4-0 mark at the #1 singles position. Sophomore (Allentown, PA) also had a perfect fall with a 4-0 singles record split between the #4 and #6 spots.

On the student-athlete side of the program, the Cardinals have had countless contributors to the team’s history. Dan Kronauge is the only player in Ball State history to compete at the NCAA Championships in both singles and doubles competition and earned an All-America honor in 1992.
