Once you have adb installed and your device in developer mode, connect your device to your computer with a USB cable and then open up a command line (Terminal on Mac OS X and cmd.exe on Windows) and enter 'adb backup com.amazon.kindle' (without the quotation marks!) and press return. You will find it much more comfortable to read on your device/app. Easy on your eyes” – but then as “supported devices” only list their own Kindle stuff Any ideas as to how I may get the “epub” or even “azw” I believe I have purchased?
A bit of a ramble, sorry- but i hope the info helps. I can’t speak for the kindle devices, but the free kindle app for Android, while feature rich, doesn’t allow for a lot of basic things. For example, you can’t change book covers (occasionally a book is missing one), or edit title, author etc.from the device.
In my case this had been saved in Downloads>Calibre>Plugins. I received a message that the plug in had been installed correctly. By selecting File Type Plugins I could confirm it had been installed. However when I went to customise the plugin (to tell Calibre what plugin to use) I got a message: ERROR unhandled exception Import error: no module named config. It seems from this that it’s looking for a Windows file, not a Mac file. Can anyone suggest what’s wrong?
If someone breaks the DRM, one’s breaking the law and one’s being a “pirate”. Because the whole purpose of the legal protection to DRM was not to prevent piracy. That was the excuse used to convince politicians to pass the law. If you know how DRM systems work you understand they couldn’t prevent piracy anyway. And the fact is, they didn’t. The legal protection to DRM is not for pirates, is for honest citizens.
Isn't there a quick guide? Install calibre.
Today I am going to cover this problem: How to install and use Calibre DRM Removal plugins. 1 Install Calibre Calibre is totally free to download and use, click the buttons below you can download the Windows and Mac versions directly.
• Launch it and check that the option to automatically install updates is still turned off. • Kindle may need to be registered by signing in to your Amazon account within the program. Some users have reported being unable to sign in to their Amazon account within Kindle for PC once version 1.17 is reinstalled. If that occurs go to the Amazon website and on the manage your content and devices page, and on the tab locate 'Kindle for PC' (or Mac) and deregister it using the '.'
If you have either of them then you do not need to install them again: • • Calibre is of course the ebook library management tool. I've mentioned it once or twice, and that's what you're going to use to remove the DRM. And K4PC is how you'll download the ebooks. Install the apps one at a time (and set up your account with the K4PC app, if you haven't already). While it's being installed, go to the website and download the ZIP file full of plugins. Got everything installed? • UnZip the ZIP file you just downloaded.
The mobileread thread offers another option – just remove or disable the rendertest program and kindle 1.19 won’t use KFX format. It downloads the usual azw file. (note – it still puts the files in a separate directory per book) This is located at%localappdata% Amazon Kindle application renderer-test.exe (windows) or /Applications/Kindle.app/Contents/MacOS/renderer-test (Mac). Rename or chmod. Note – any KFX files already downloaded will be unreadable.
And on at least two occasions, when there was no solution for what I was trying to do, the creator of Calibre literally created one for me. I know he doesn’t like to get involved in the DRM removal aspects, but if you’re just interested in figuring out how to transfer without converting, I’m sure he’d know of a way. @Magic of the Mind: I was aware there were compatibility issues with the new Kindle for PC version, but wasn’t aware what they were. I’m currently using an older version, and it works fine with Calibre. My advice is to find a copy of the older version, and back it up, so you’ll have it in the future for re-installing, if need be. It works with the latest version of Calibre, and Apprentice Alf’s Tool Bag for DRM removal.
Credits Most of the work on converting the DRM removal scripts to a calibre plugin has been done by DiapDealer and Apprentice Alf.
Wait a few minutes for it to take affect and try to sign in again. (If all else fails then re-install and register again and start over with step 1.) • If asked if you want to update to the new version always reject it. Armenian font for mac. ('Skip' the update.) • Re-download your books and import into calibre as before. Method 2 - Disable KFX support in Kindle for PC/Mac As an alternative, a method is available to prevent versions 1.19 through 1.24 from making use of KFX format.
Calibre will import them and convert them as usual. You should now be able to transfer them to you kindle with no problems opening them at all. This is my first ever post/guide, hope it helps someone out there. Thank you very much! I wasn’t able to remove the DRM with the Calibre plugins but by using your method instead, I was able to strip the DRM, rename the file from.azw3 to.azw, convert it to LIT in Calibre then to PDB in ABC Amber Lit Converter and upload it to my Tungsten E2 Palm Pilot PDA with the Palm Desktop install tool. Who ever thought that reading a book in bed would be so complicated! (I know that Calibre can convert straight to PDB but then the install tool insists on storing it in the memory card, which I keep changing, and not the PDA’s main memory.) •.
Once you’ve installed the python stuff you can use a kindlebook tool from the latest vers 5.1 tools you downloaded above. The tool I use is in the following path on my PC: downloads/tools_v5.1/tools_v5.1/Other_tools/KindleBooks Read the README first for usage instructions. Which is basically choosing the input file (the book you want to remove DRM from), choosing your ouput folder to save to unlocked file to (something like Unlocked Ebooks worked for me) and also put in your Kindle’s serial number case sensitive in the last box. To finish phase one simply use this tool as per the instructions to manually remove the DRM, its got a 100% record for me so far. Phase 2: Is similar to this original guide, ensure you have the latest Calibre and plugins. Simple import your unlocked book from ‘Unlocked Ebooks’ or wherever you saved them from phase 1.
If I buy tomatoes and pay my water bills and I use them to make tomato soup I’m not a thief because I turned the tomatoes and water into soup. Converting to a different format is not stealing. Legally they may have defined DRM infringement as stealing but morally it isn’t.
• You must not use these tools to give your ebooks to a hundred of your closest friends. Or to a million strangers.
